Origins Original Skin

I love Origins and some of their products are my absolute favorites that I always have in my skin care routine. However despite some major pros the new Original Skin line is not for me.

I have combination skin and unfortunately Original Skin Matte Moisturizer with Willowherb doesn’t give me enough moisturization especially on the dry areas of my face. If you have dry patches this cream will even emphasize them somehow.

I love the smell which is divine, but strong, so if you’re sensitive to scents try it before purchasing. Jar itself looks beautiful but I prefer pumps or tubes for hygienic purposes. Texture feels nice but silicon-y at the same time, almost like primer texture, so I believe this product can be a great healthier primer for those with oily skin. And this leads us to the ingredient list: first three are water, dimethicone and alcohol denat. That is not very impressive and makes me think about this cream as a primer even more. Also, alcohol denat? Not a good ingredient for any skin type.

Nevertheless I believe this could be a great product for people with oily skin. I asked my husband to try this cream because I couldn’t use it and so couldn’t write a decent review. His skin is dehydrated, oily and problematic with enlarged pores. He tried this product for a couple of weeks and I can see that the cream does a good job in terms of mattifying, but a little bit more moisturization would be nice. No improvement on the skin texture or minimizing pores (even though the product claims those), but his skin tone looks more even after two weeks and no pore clogging was detected. As for me, I probably will give it a try next summer when I need more sebum control during crazy hot California days.

As well as the cream from the Original Skin line Renewal Serum with Willowherb doesn’t give my combo skin enough moisturization and feels very much like primer. However I still can use it with other moisturizing creams on top but it ruins its mattifying features. The scent of the serum is also strong but not so overpowering as cream’s aroma. Still think that this could be a beautiful product for people with oily (and not dehydrated) skin especially as a part of priming routine before applying a makeup.

Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay was the product that suited me the most. I usually use clarifying masks 2-3 times a week and have quite a few of them on my vanity simply because I like to switch between different masks since they all work a little bit differently. This product became a nice addition to my collection even though I feel that it’s very basic kaolin mask.

I like the ingredients, the consistency and the fact that it doesn’t tighten your face during drying process and also doesn’t dry out the skin. As for the consistency, the mask contains jojoba beads which should gently exfoliate your face, but I use a brush to apply masks and a sponge to remove them so I didn’t benefit from this feature. Probably if you wash the mask off with your fingertips using massaging motions you can notice polishing effect, but I doubt it since the concentration of the beads is quite low and they’re very gentle itself. I can’t say much about refining effect simply because I don’t have a lot of a texture on my skin, but I don’t see any difference in terms of size of the pores in my T-zone. However my face looks more radiant and my skin tone is more even after using this product.

Overall it’s a decent mask but the price tag is too high for what you get in my opinion. No way I will switch to if from my must-have Origins Out of Trouble 10 Minute Mask.

I received this product complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster in exchange for my honest review.
